That's a wrap!

Pilot testing Year 10 program at Woodridge SHS

Woodridge SHS Year 9/10 Pilot: Young Leaders Drive Real Change!

At Climate Action Schools, we believe in Redesigning Success: People and planet, thriving together. This vision truly came alive during our recent pilot program with Year 9 and 10 students at Woodridge State High School.

These incredible young leaders embarked on a journey that transformed their understanding of sustainability from theory to tangible action. Through hands-on experience in their school's Sustainability Skills Centre (SSC), they didn't just learn about waste; they actively managed it, applying industry-standard functional sustainability tools like Take 5 safety, 5S organisation, 8 Wastes identification, 5 Whys analysis, and Fishbone problem-solving.

The impact was profound. Students connected their local actions to global challenges, particularly after powerful discussions about e-waste and its human cost. This ignited a deep sense of responsibility, spurring them to become agents of change within their school community. They're now leading initiatives like the "Bin It To Win It" challenge, inspiring peers and staff alike. Beyond the school gates, students experienced direct connections to industry through tours to partners like Oxworks, Evolve Group and Cummins. They saw their newly acquired skills in action, discovering diverse career pathways in manufacturing, resource recovery, and the circular economy.

This pilot program proves that when young people are empowered with practical tools and a clear purpose, they don't just learn; they lead. They are not only reducing their school's environmental footprint but are also developing the essential capabilities and industry awareness needed to thrive in tomorrow's green economy.

Watch their inspiring journey unfold!

This video showcases the powerful transformation underway at Climate Action School, Woodridge State High School (WSHS), where students are driving real change through hands-on sustainability learning. What began as a Year 10 pilot program is now a school-wide movement.
