Green Gold Rush!
Queensland schools are being invited to take part in an exciting new opportunity that supports both sustainability education and P&C fundraising — all while helping to build a stronger circular economy.
The P&C Association of Queensland, in partnership with Container Exchange are rolling out 20 regional Donation Stations to Queensland schools in the first half of 2026. This initiative is designed to empower schools to lead by example, turning everyday waste into valuable resources while generating ongoing funds for their P&Cs.
What is a Donation Station?
Donation Stations provide a simple, practical way for schools to collect eligible containers and redirect them into the container refund scheme. Rather than containers being treated as waste, they become a resource — supporting both environmental outcomes and school communities.
For schools, this means:
A hands-on sustainability initiative that aligns with curriculum outcomes
Learning opportunities for students around resource recovery and circular economy principles
An ongoing fundraising stream for P&Cs, without traditional fundraising fatigue
A visible, positive sustainability action that engages families and the wider community
Why This Matters
Schools play a vital role in shaping future generations. By participating in initiatives like Donation Stations, schools are not only reducing waste but also demonstrating leadership in sustainability — showing students that small, consistent actions can create meaningful impact.
This program supports schools to move beyond “recycling” and into practical, systems-based sustainability, where learning, behaviour change, and community benefit all come together.
