Maroochydore Smart City – Self-Guided Walking Tour
Useful for: Teachers, Students, Sustainability Teams, School Leaders
What does a smart, connected city actually look like? This self-guided walking tour through Maroochydore City Centre gives students and school communities the opportunity to explore smart technology and infrastructure already operating in an Australian city.
Along the tour, you can discover an automated underground waste collection system, environmental and weather monitoring, bicycle sensors, smart poles, telecommunications infrastructure, object-detection cameras and other technologies that collect data and help inform how a city operates.
The resource is a great conversation starter for exploring how data, technology and infrastructure can help us understand and manage resources differently. Students can also access public dashboards and explore augmented-reality views of underground infrastructure, connecting what they see on the walk with the systems and data operating behind the scenes.
